The staff of Delaware County Office for the Aging is pleased to announce that John Drinan of Treadwell has been selected for the “Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen” award.  This award has been given annually since 1983 and recognizes a Delaware County senior citizen who has been active in improving the quality of life for the county’s elder residents.

Also being recognized this year is Alfretta “Sis” Doig. as "Senior Citizen of the Year." She is the 44th recipient of this prestigious award which honors persons who best exemplify the positive impact that senior citizens have on their communities.

Alfretta was born in Margaretville, New York, to the late Sterling and Ella Murphy.  Alfretta is a graduate of the Downsville Central School in the town of Colchester.  In 1989, Alfretta accepted a position with Delaware County Social Services in the Accounting Unit as Account Clerk where she worked for 22 years until her retirement.

She organized and started the “Annual Basket Social and Lottery Raffle” five years ago.  This project helps raise funds to assist senior club members to offset the cost of bus trips and assist local organizations with projects to better improve the community.
