Carrie Underwood doesn't record a lot of love songs, but when she does, she makes sure they're very special. Carrie Underwood's best love songs draw a beautiful picture of her happy home life with her husband of eight years, former NHL pro Mike Fisher.

Underwood and Fisher have had a fairytale romance since they began dating in 2008, but it was challenging for the couple at first. Underwood was based in Nashville to pursue her country music career, while Fisher was living in Canada and playing for the Ottawa Senators at the time. Their early relationship consisted mostly of phone calls, but the couple shared their first kiss on New Year's Eve in 2008, and they got engaged less than a year later on Dec. 20, 2009.

Underwood married Fisher on July 10, 2010, and in February of 2011, they got to end their long periods of separation when he got drafted by the Nashville Predators and moved to Music City permanently. The couple have become one of country music fans' favorites in the years since then as Fisher has accompanied his superstar wife to high-profile events, and she was a fixture in the stands during hockey season in Nashville, cheering her husband on during his entire run with the Predators. The couple have seemed even more blissful since welcoming their son, Isaiah, in 2015, frequently sharing personal glimpses via social media.

She tends to favor female empowerment anthems over love songs, but that hasn't stopped Underwood from penning several sweet odes to Fisher over the years. You'll find those on the list of Carrie Underwood's best love songs, but there are also great songs from some of the top songwriters in Nashville, too.

    "There's a Place for Us"

From: 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'

Underwood teamed with David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey to write "There's a Place for Us," which appeared in the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010. Originally written to celebrate a vision of finding one's destiny, the lyrics serve double duty as one of Underwood's most effective love songs: "We can be the kings and queens of anything if we believe / It's written in the stars that shine above / A world where you and I belong / Where faith and love will keep us strong / Exactly who we are is just enough / There's a place for us." The song was nominated for Best Original Song at the 68th Golden Globe Awards.

    "All-American Girl"

    From: 'Carnival Ride'

"All-American Girl" was the second of Underwood's singles that she co-wrote, and it bears a personal touch because of it. She collaborated with Ashley Gorley and Kelley Lovelace on the second single from 2007's Carnival Ride, which described the love a father has for his daughter, a man has for his wife and how that cycle is born anew when they welcome a daughter of their own. "But now he's wrapped around her finger / She's the center of his whole world / And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect all-American girl."

    "Inside Your Heaven"

    Single Release

One of Carrie Underwood's best love songs was her very first single. She sang "Inside Your Heaven" during the American Idol finale the night she won in 2005, and the song was released to mainstream radio immediately after. Written by Andreas Carlsson, Pelle Nylen and Savan Kotecha, the piano ballad scored Underwood a huge pop hit with its sweeping melody and lyrics about true love: "And I wanna be inside your heaven / Take me to the place you cry from / Where the storm blows your way / And I wanna be the earth that holds you /
Every bit of air you're breathin' in / A soothin' wind / I wanna be inside your heaven."

    "Mama's Song"

    From: ''Play On'

Underwood teamed with Kara DioGuardi, Marti Frederiksen and Luke Laird to write "Mama's Song" in 2010. Ostensibly written to her mom, the song is really about Fisher, assuring Underwood's mother that "He is good, so good / He treats your little girl like a real man should / He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps / No he's never gonna leave / So don't you worry about me." The song reached No. 2, and "Mama's Song" was also nominated for a Grammy, and won two ACM Awards and a BMI Award.

    "Heartbeat"

    From: 'Storyteller'

Underwood co-wrote "Heartbeat" with Ashley Gorley, and the song's producer, Zach Crowell, and released it as the second single from Storyteller in 2015. Sam Hunt provided backing vocals on the song, which qualifies as one of Underwood's best love songs because it reveals how she feels when she gets to spend alone time with Fisher: "Tonight I wanna drive so far we'll only find static on the radio / And we can't see those city lights and I love the way you look in a firefly glow / Saying everything without making a sound / A cricket choir in the background, underneath a harvest moon / Standing on your shoes in my bare feet, dancing to the rhythm of your heartbeat."

    "Some Hearts"

    From: 'Some Hearts'

The title song and third single from Underwood's debut album is also one of her best-ever love songs. Written by Diane Warren, who is well-known for sweeping, lush romantic songs, "Some Hearts" details the kind of love that finds you when you least expect it, changing the way you look at your entire life. "Some hearts, they just get all the right breaks / Some hearts have the stars on their side / Some hearts, they just have it so easy / Some hearts just get lucky sometimes."

"What I Never Knew I Always Wanted"

    From: 'Storyteller'

Underwood also co-wrote the song that comes in at No. 1 on the list of her best love songs. She worked with Brett James and Hillary Lindsey on "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted," and while it was never released as an official radio single, the song perfectly described the joy and contentment she has found in her life with Fisher. "I finally found what I never knew I always wanted / I couldn't see, I was blind 'til my eyes were opened / I didn't know there was a hole, something missing in my soul / 'Til you filled it up with your love"
