A 200,000 dollar low interest loan from Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council will go towards redeveloping the former Salvation Army building on South Broad St. The loan will leverage up to 250,000 dollars in direct funding from Development Chenango Corporation, the economic development arm of Commerce Chenango.

Plans call for DCC to purchase the property, perform functional and architectural renovations, including asbestos removal.  When work is completed, the ground floor and basement would be rented to one or more commercial tenants. Commerce Chenango President and CEO Steve Craig says "Rescuing this property will help preserve the integrity of the downtown Norwich business district."
