Single-use plastic carryout bags will become a thing of the past if legislation proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo becomes law. The legislation advanced by the governor would take effect in January bans the provision of single-use, plastic carryout bags at any point of sale except garment bags, trash bags and any bags used to wrap or contain certain foods, such as fruits and sliced meats. There are 10 cities, towns, and villages in New York which have enacted plastic bag bans.
