An employee of the Sgt. Henry Johnson Youth Leadership Academy in South Kortright, NY has been charged with physically abusing a 14-year-old student there and has subsequently been fired. The man, Timothy Rankins, is facing charges of restraining a boy by shoving the child’s face into a desk then a wall and lifting the boy off the ground. Rankins was a youth division aide. He was arrested and arraigned on multiple charges including unlawful imprisonment, official misconduct, attempted assault, and menacing. The academy is for at-risk youth in state care.
