William "Bill" Winans, a part-time driver for Oneonta Public Transit bus service, was killed when the vehicle he and his wife, Kathleen, were travelling in, veered off the road near Laurens and struck a home.  Winans was killed and his wife injured in the accident which occurred around 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Kathleen Winans was reported to have been treated and released.  Mrs. Winans was also a driver for OPT. The couple had just finished their bus routes and were returning to their Norwich home when the accident took place.

Update: New York State Police report Winans was driving west on Route 23 in the Town of Laurens when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve and struck a cable guide rail. The vehicle eventually hit a vacant residence at 3317 State Route 23 damaging the front porch and front wall.

Bill Winans  was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was also a bus driver for the Norwich City School District.
