This weekend, October 24, 25, and 26, the Oxford Civic Theater will present the musical comedy, "The Ransom of Red Chief." It's a great opportunity to treat the family to a fun night of theater at the Oxford Academy and Performing Arts Auditorium, 50 South Washington Avenue.

The play is based on a 1907 short story by O. Henry. Set in rural Alabama, a pair of small time criminals decide to kidnap a young man in order to extort a large sum of money from his wealthy aunt. Little do the kidnappers know that the towns residents are overjoyed to be rid of the brat, who insists he's a fierce Indian named "Red Chief." After the aunt refuses to pay the ransom, the kidnappers try to send him home but he won't leave. It's a raucous, madcap story with a surprise ending.

Showtimes are Friday and Saturday nights at 7 PM with a matinee Sunday at 3 PM. Tickets are available at the door, $8 for adults and $5 for kids. For information call 843-6445.
