"Battle of the Badges" is coming August 11th from noon to 6pm at the Oneonta Elks Club in Oneonta and this is one battle for a great cause.  What's it all about?  The Oneonta Police and Fire Departments are teaming up with the American Red Cross for this first ever event to see who can recruit the most eligible blood donors in the community to give blood.

You can join the Battle of the Badges blood drive by donating blood on August 11 at the Elks Club (84 Chestnut St., Oneonta).  The department team that gets the most blood donors will win bragging rights and a trophy.

Fire Chief and Emergency Manager Patrick Pidgeon, City of Oneonta Fire/EMS encourages everyone to come on out on August 11th and "cast your vote for which heroes are your favorite, and become a hero yourself by donating blood for a worthy cause.”  All those who donate during Battle of the Badges will receive a Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last.

To participate in Battle of the Badges, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).  All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
