The Oxford Lions Club got together recently to take care of their adopted stretch of highway. Their "We Serve" motto is quite appropriate regarding this bi-annual, roadside clean-up project.

Back in the late 80's, like many states, the New York  State Department of Transportation suffered from a declining work force and reduced budget. They then implemented a program whereby individuals or organizations could "adopt" a section of highway for beautification or other aesthetic related activities.

The Oxford Lions adopted a section of NYS Route 12 from County Route 4 to Cty. Rt. 3, and twice a year they get 10 or so members out for an hour on a Sunday morning. Most recently, they were out October 19th. If not for their efforts, this part of the highway could surely have refuse scattered about detracting from the beauty of wild flowers, clean curbs and the country charm that is Chenango County.
