Senator Akshar Announces Grants For Local Fire Departments

Senator Fred Akshar announced Thursday that 12 local fire departments and emergency squads  from across the 52nd Senate District will be the beneficiaries of funding grants totaling $155,000.The grants will go toward a variety of projects, depending on the needs of each department.  They range from rescue equipment upgrades and replacements to new communications technology.

Among the 12 to receive the grants are the Greene Fire Department and the Norwich Fire/Emergency Squad.  Greene will receive $15,000 for dry suits, PFD'S, Helmets, and a propless motor boat.  The Norwich Emergency Squad receives $10,000 for advanced life support equipment.

The grants were outlined in this year's New York State Budget and are administered through the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
