In our area, Spring Break is coming up next week for school kids.  It's a great opportunity for families to hit the road  for a change of scenery and shared family fun.  However, many families, either due to financial constraints or work schedules will be staying put.

For those of you staying home with the kids this break and pondering how to keep them active and entertained without having to rely on video games and Tv, here are some easy tips that have worked great with our kids from sheknows.com:

- Let the gardening begin!  Get the kids either creating a garden or helping to clean out your existing garden.  They can also help with yard clean up.  If you provide them with some incentives for yard work, just sit back and watch them enthusiastically tackle the job.

- Dance party anyone?  Invite a few of their friends over to make it more fun and then play their favorite songs.  You could also put out a few snacks to make it more of a party.

-  Cook or bake with the kids.  Let them pick something simple and fun that you can make together.  I know my kids always love to get in the kitchen, especially when something sweet is the end result.

- Scanvenger Hunt:  Make a list of things the kids can find outside and give them a bag to put items in.  If it's a rainy day, then the list should be things they could find inside.  Provide fun little prizes.  Even bigger kids love this idea.

- Arts and crafts:  sky's the limit on this one.  From simple drawings your kids can do to decorate the fridge, to clay sculptures, paintings, string art and everything in between, this one can keep them busy for hours.

- Family bike ride: this allows further exploration near your home and it becomes really appealing to kids when you bike to an ice cream shop.
