Whenever I ask someone in casual conversation, "Have you seen the TED Talk on (fill in the blank)?" they either get excited to hear about it because they are familiar with TED Talks or they give me a very blank stare because they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I feel like I was a latecomer to the TED Talk craze.  TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It all started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago and has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.  If you want to be inspired, then definitely check out videos of talks on a wide variety of subjects.  There's definitely something for EVERYONE!

Here in Oneonta, an independently organized TED event, TEDxOneonta, will take place on September 14th at 6 p.m. at SUNY Oneonta's Goodrich Theater.  There will be six different talks with the theme of "connect", all around twelve minutes in length, designed to share great ideas and ultimately inspire attendees.  If you want to preview speakers and learn more, click here.

Seating is limited to 200 for this event, as mandated by the TED organization.
