A federal court orders a Walton-based creamery to shut down operations following a listeria outbreak traced to raw milk cheese it manufactured. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Vulto Creamery LLC and its owner Johannes H. Vulto prepared, packed or held the company’s cheeses under unsanitary conditions and company records revealed positive tests for a type of Listeria in the Vulto facility, but the company never attempted to identify the species of Listeria or its source. Authorities say eight people were sickened by the cheese and two of those died.
