The best meteor showers of the year peak this week and if the forecast holds, Central New Yorkers should get a great view of it.  This story at Syracuse.com quotes a meteorologist from Binghamton as saying Wednesday should be the best night to view the Perseid Showers, and the forecast is for clearing skies that night during peak activity.

Peak activity means that up to 100 meteors an hour could be visible in our area. There is also a new moon this week, which means the sky could be very dark, making the meteors more visible.

According to NASA, the meteors are mostly no larger than a grain of sand and are traveling at 37 miles per second when they hit the Earth's atmosphere.  Should be quite a light show in Norwich as there are also fireworks scheduled that night at the Chenango County Fair.
