You may know the saying, “Your words have power, use them wisely.”.  No one knows who first said that but I'm convinced no truer words have ever been uttered after a random factoid I came across, inspired me to change the way I speak about the food I want to eat.

The factoid stated that "when refusing to eat unhealthy food, using the words 'I don't' instead of 'I can't' will make you 8 times more likely to stick to your diet."  I decided to try this approach at social functions when it was most difficult to eat healthy foods as people offered me cake, cookies, chips, etc...you know, all the unhealthy stuff.  Guess what?  It usually worked! After doing that, I was much more able to stay away from those bad choices because I was empowering myself to CHOOSE what I did want to eat.

So give it a try.  Now is a great time to put this to the test with the holidays of overindulgence on the horizon.  The worst thing that could happen is that it doesn't work for you.  Nothing ventured nothing gained, right?
