American Red Cross Plans Flood Remembrance Event in Binghamton

One year ago, Hurricane Irene made landfall in New York State as a Category 1 hurricane. And just as the state was starting to recover from its effects, remnants of tropical storm Lee hit on Sept. 7 and dumped another 10 inches of rain within a 24-hour period.

In New York’s southern tier, the storms caused widespread flooding, power outages and damage to homes and businesses. The impact of Irene and Lee is still being felt as recovery efforts continue in many southern tier neighborhoods.

On September 6, the American Red Cross of the central New York region will host a Hurricane Irene and tropical storm Lee remembrance event in Binghamton to honor the people and organizations that gave and are still giving, their time, energy and resources to help southern tier residents recover after last year’s floods.
