The 171st annual Chenango County Fair opens Tuesday at the fairgrounds on East Main St. in Norwich, and thanks to the generosity of Chobani, admission is free!. Gates open at 10:30 with NYSEG electric demonstrations scheduled throughout the day, harness racing and entertainment in the grandstand by the Peter Karp Band.
Record Setting Year For New York’s Tourism Industry
The state's tourism industry set new records in 2017 for total visitation, economic impact and direct spending. According to the Governor's office, New York State welcomed 243.8 million visitors last year, nearly 5 million more than the previous year and an 18% increase since 2011.

New Species of Tick Found in New York State
The New York State Departments of Health and Agriculture & Markets are cautioning state residents, visitors and farmers about the continued importance of protecting against ticks, as a new species has been found in New York. The "longhorned tick" was recently discovered in Westchester County.

The American Legion Post 183 in Sidney is calling all riders to come out for the annual Benefits Run Saturday, July 28th. The ride will benefit Operation Comfort Warriors. The American Legion Riders and all participants will meet at the Sidney Veteran's Memorial at River Street and Route 8 where a map will be provided for the ride.
Baseball Night With Commerce Chenango and the Rumble Ponies!
Friday, July 20th, Commerce Chenango will host a bus trip from Norwich to Binghamton to see the, ah hem, Rumble Ponies in action at NYSEG Stadium. They are, of course, the Double A affiliate of the New York Mets (Binghamton Mets sounded SO much better).
Gus Macker Registration Deadline Extended
For the past 22 years, thousands of people from all over the country make their way to Norwich in July to play or watch hundreds of teams compete in the Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball tournament, and there is still time to get your team in for the 23rd annual tournament. There are nearly 400 teams already registered, but organizers want this year's tournament to be even bigger and better than ever.
