Cherish Lee, ‘Ones You Leave Behind’ Music Video [Exclusive Premiere]

Nashville singer-songwriter Cherish Lee is premiering the music video for her song "Ones You Leave Behind" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Fans can press play above to watch.

Lee wrote the poignant "Ones You Leave Behind" after her younger brother Johnny died of a heroin overdose in 2014; in the song, she emotionally expresses the point of view of her family and the other loved ones left behind after Johnny's death. Lee -- who got her "Always Remember" tattoo in Johnny's honor -- describes the song's accompanying music video as a "small glimpse into losing someone due to addiction;" with the song, she hopes to use her platform to advocate for those living with addiction, those who have died from addiction and those who love them.

"It's time to stand up for those that lost the battle with addiction and those that have lost loved ones to not only heroin, but to the slew of drugs that now plague our communities and our homes," Lee tells The Boot. "The time is NOW to end this, get it off our streets and out of our communities! No more heroin. No more drugs. No more overdoses."

The "Ones You Leave Behind" video keeps the song's family vibe going thanks to an appearance from Lee's young son Wyatt; there's also a cameo from Reese Witherspoon's niece Draper. Lee herself comes to country music from a family familiar with the business and the entertainment industry in general: Her father, Johnny Lee, is perhaps best known for his song "Lookin' for Love," from Urban Cowboy, and her mother, Charlene Tilton, portrayed Lucy Ewing in the classic '70s TV show Dallas.

These days, Lee is blazing her own trail in Nashville with performances at the Bluebird Cafe and other songwriter havens. "Ones You Leave Behind" is the second single from her album Tequila Cowgirl, released earlier this year; fans can buy the album on iTunes.
