With virtually all sports and festivities on hold the Hall of Fame may be forced to make a decision in the next several weeks on whether to continue moving forward, postponing the inductions until  Fall or holding off until next summer and combine this year's inductees with next year's group.

The induction ceremonies cap off a week of festivities and draw tens of thousands of fans.  With Jeter's popularity and the close proximity to New York City plus his ardent Yankees' followers this summer's event could prove to attract the biggest crowd in the Hall of Fame's history.

There are numerous concerns about holding the event.  The expected massive turnout would have thousand of fans standing or sitting elbow to elbow.  Volunteers and staff members would potentially be exposed to any health dangers.  And many of the Hall of Fame members who return for the ceremonies each year are now in their 70's and 80's and that makes them extremely vulnerable to contract the Coronavirus.

The Hall of Fame itself remains closed.  It closed to all visitors on March 15.  The next update on a potential opening is set for April 26.
