A big day is planned for Memorial Day in Oxford on Monday with several activities scheduled, including a big parade and memorial services to honor veterans and active service personnel who have served or have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The Oxford American Legion's Fort Hill Post #376 begins the day with a wreath laying ceremony and rifle salute at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery on West State Street at 8 A.M.  Then, the parade lines up at the Legion on South Washington Street, with step off scheduled for 9:30, led by the Village of Oxford Police Department. the Legion Honor Guard and Rifle Squad, and Legionnaires.

There will also be a salute honoring those who have dies at sea as Oxford Legion Auxiliary President Jan Pollard will toss a memorial garland into the Chenango River  from the Main Street bridge. Following the parade, be sure to enjoy lunch with some chicken Bar-B-Que at the Legion, on the Route 12 side.

It will be a grand day, rain or shine, in Oxford, so come out and enjoy this day of remembrance with the whole family, Memorial Day, May 28th.
