Good Luck Foods To Start Your New Year Off With
Around the world, there are foods to eat that bring good luck in the New Year according to Good Housekeeping and who couldn't use a little extra luck? Get ready, get set, eat...
Noodles: In many Asian cultures, eating noodles is thought to bring good luck in the new year, but make sure you don't break the noodle before you get it all the way into your mouth!
Pork: In countries such as Austria, Cuba, and Spain, they consider pork to be a good luck food because of the way in which pigs get their food: they root for food while planting their feet and pushing their snouts forward. Why is this good? Because pushing forward is progress and we all know that progress is good.
Lentils: in Italy, it's thought that lentils look like coins so you can never really eat enough of those for prosperity.
Fish: The idea of fish signifying prosperity, since fish swim forward (see pork reference, same idea) is observed in North America, Asia, and Europe.
Green, leafy vegetables: Money and prosperity seem to be the going theme when it comes to "good luck" foods for the new year and what do greens and money have in common? They're both green! Eat up. It doesn't hurt that it's all healthy.
