Iowa-born singer-songwriter Jesse Allen is premiering the music video for his new song "Bad" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch.

Allen headed back to his home state to film his "Bad" music video, choosing a small-town bar in Barnum called the Junkyard as its setting. Directed by Rick Burger, the clip makes use of retro, rustic imagery and black-and-white shots to pair a vintage aesthetic with the song's catchy, mid-tempo melody.

"We spent about five hours filming in the bar and around the countryside to get a bunch of different shots in there," Allen tells The Boot. "The video tries to tell two different stories in one: the story of songwriter / singer wanting the music career 'bad' but also wanting his woman back home 'bad' and chasing this dream for her and his family."

"Bad" was born in a late night strike of inspiration, and Allen completed the song's lyrics in just about 15 minutes. "It was the song that kick-started my debut EP and got me into gear about chasing this dream full-time," Allen shares of "Bad." "I just knew when I wrote it I had something special that I hadn't had before."

"Bad" is the lead single from Allen's debut EP, I'm Steppin' In, which he released in July of 2018 and recorded in Nashville. He's appeared on bills with Sam Hunt, Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert and others.
