Kenny Dixon Crash: Speed to Blame in Kane Brown Drummer’s Fatal Accident

Speed caused the crash that killed Kane Brown's drummer, Kenny Dixon, outside of Nashville on Saturday (Oct. 12), according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Officials released more details about the fatal, one-car accident on Monday (Oct. 14).

Nashville's Tennessean newspaper reports that, according to THP, Dixon was driving a 2016 Kia Rio LX in the right lane of I-24 East in Christiana, Tenn., which is about 40 miles southeast of Nashville, when the accident occurred. While going at a high rate of speed at about 12:45AM local time, Dixon's vehicle exited the roadway on the right side, near mile marker 88, and traveled for about 100 yards before hitting a tree head-on.

Dixon, 27, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. THP Lt. Charlie Caplinger says that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors, and no criminal charges have been filed related to the crash.

Dixon, a longtime member of Brown's band, leaves behind a fiancee, Sarah Hedrick, and 3-year-old son, Levi James. A native of Dalton, Ga., he and Hedrick were planning a Nov. 30 wedding.

"Kenny was a member of our family from the very beginning, and our hearts are with his fiancée Sarah, his son and everyone who knew and loved him," reads a statement from Brown's team. "He was truly one of the greatest and kindest people on and off stage we’ve ever known.”

Per Dixon's obituary, a celebration of life will be held for Dixon on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 3PM local time at Dalton's Crosspointe Church, followed by a burial at the nearby West Hill Cemetery. A wake will take place on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Crosspointe Church, from 5PM until 9PM.

Brown has rescheduled one show in light of Dixon's death: A concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., originally scheduled for Friday (Oct. 18) has been rescheduled for Jan. 9, 2020.
