Back on June 27, 1917 a baby girl was born in North Dakota. Now 102 years later, Charlene Schjeldahl celebrated her birthday today at the Hampshire House in Oneonta with granddaughter Mary Ann Geraghty, great grandson Eamon Geraghty and friends.

Before the party, Mary Ann took her grandmother for her weekly hairdressing appointment which Mary says Charlene looks forward to and loves.

Daughter Peggy says her mom has always been very active, an enthusiastic learner and a great conversationalist. Peggy adds this professional mom has always had a love for the piano and still plays to this day despite an arthritic hand.

The Hampshire House says Charlene has been a joy to have there as a resident for the past year and presented the Birthday Girl with 102 red long stem roses during her Wednesday afternoon's Birthday Party. Charlene says the secret to living to 102 is reading.
