The City of Oneonta now has a law fining any person hosting a party with underage drinking. It was passed two weeks ago by the City Common Council and Mayor Gary Herzig signed it into law on Tuesday. It provides for a fine up to $1,000 or 15 days in jail, even if the person hosting the party, student or otherwise, is completely sober. Students had come to the council meeting two weeks ago to express their opposition but none turned out at Tuesday’s session.
