The New York State burn ban started on Saturday and runs through May 14. During this time period, residential brush burning is banned throughout New York State. Officials say
since the ban was implemented ten years ago the amount of spring wildfires are down by 37 percent. Campfires are allowed as are small cooking fires and celebratory banfires. Fires cannot be left unattended and must be fully extinguished.
