Officials in the Norwich City School District have released their preliminary budget numbers for 2013-2014.

Despite challenges such as rising pension costs, employee health care and benefits, special programs and utility costs, Norwich superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan says they will maintain the status quo.

O’Sullivan says the district will maintain staff and programs and even add some new programs.

Next year’s budget calls for a 2.5 percent property tax increase, which is about 27 percent of the district revenue, with 65 percent coming from state aid.

School districts across the state will put their budgets up for a vote May 21.
