The Southern Tier Economic Development Council is announcing that 10 projects will be funded through the $8 million in awards from the Rural Initiative fund; the Community Revitalization Program; and the Shovel Ready Program, as part of governor Cuomo’s Regional Council initiative.

Three of those projects are in Chenango County. A $200,000 low interest loan from the Community Revitalization Program will go towards redeveloping the former Salvation Army building in downtown Norwich.

The Rural Initiative Fund will supply Norwich-based Sunrise Family Farms, Inc. with a $300,000 loan to purchase pasteurization equipment for its expansion project in Greene.

Lastly, the same fund will provide Purdy and Sons Foods, Inc. in Sherburne with a $370,000 loan to help finance a 3,000 sq. foot expansion of the existing warehouse, buy two trucks and maintenance equipment to expand both the number of farmers served and its distribution area. Purdy’s products are distributed to schools, government agencies, institutions and restaurants.
