The state Parole Board has denied convicted killer David Dart's application to be released from prison.

The former Portlandville resident has been behind bars for the past 24 years for the 1989 knifing death of Milford High School graduate Gillian "Jill" Gibbons.

Dart was denied parole because the board ruled that his release would be "incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law.

It was Dart's first application for parole. He is currently in Otisville State Prison, a medium-security facility.
