Paul Hagen has won the J.G. Taylor Spink award, the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday. The award that is presented annually to a sportswriter for meritorious contributions to baseball writing.

Hagen, whose baseball writing career has spanned 40 years, including the past 26 as an authoritative analytical writing voice in Philadelphia. He will be honored with the award that is presented during the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction weekend July 26-29.

The award is named for its first recipient. J.G. Taylor Spink, who was a driving force of The Sporting News, known during his lifetime as the baseball bible.
