As part of the reorganization of the State Office of Mental Health Department, plans are being made to close the Greater Binghamton Health Center.

State Senator Tom Libous says we can't afford to lose one job in the Southern Tier, let alone essential health services. The plan would hurt hundreds of local families and hundreds of mental health professionals and workers at the Greater Binghamton Health Center.

Libous said the child and adolescent services unit, which is one of the best in the state, was re-opened in 2006 due to the need for those services. Shutting it down will force parents to drive hours to visit their children receiving treatment.
