A Chenango County resident was arrested after he allegedly attacked someone on Main Street in the village of Afton.

Authorities say 56-year-old Edward Hillery of Afton has been charged with third-degree assault in connection with the incident.

According to New York State Police, an investigation determined Hillery punched a 70-year-old person "multiple times." The person then was said to have been pulled to the ground and kicked.

Police said the person who was attacked - whose name was not released - was injured. The victim was evaluated by medics but did not want to be taken to a hospital.

Hillery was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

The alleged incident occurred October 16. State police announced Hillery's arrest on Tuesday.
