A day long event to benefit families devastated by a tornado in Smithfield is planned for August 10th in Morrisville. The "Smithfield Tornado Relief Benefit" will feature music from the area's finest acts, including Jason Wicks, Chris Taylor Band, Cassidy Lynn and the Beadle Brothers Band.

There will be plenty of food, beer and wine, auctions, games and much more. The day will conclude with a fireworks display.

As you know, 4 people lost their lives during the storm, including a mother and her 4 month old child. All told, Morrisville Fire Chief Rick Gorton told me yesterday that 13 families lost everything or nearly everything that fateful day. He will join me on air to talk more about the benefit Wednesday morning at 8:15, and we will also be giving some tickets away to the event.

One of the reasons I am jumping on board  with my support for this is that my daughter and grandchildren live in Canastota, just 4 miles from where this tornado touched down. Too close for comfort as far as I am concerned.

Keep listening and checking the website for more information and chances to win tickets. The benefit will be held Sunday, August 10th beginning at noon at the Morrisville-Eaton Central School Elementary lot, or in case of rain at the Morrisville College Student Union Activities Center.
