The third Red Sox championship in ten years got me to thinking about my grandfathers last night, both of who were big "SAWX" fans. The reason being that neither of them got to see the Sox win a series in their lifetime. Well, they were both alive when the Red Sox won the 1918 series, but one was 6, the other 3, so that doesn't count, right?

Of course, for a long time, I didn't think I would see them win in my lifetime either. I was disappointed in '67, '75, and 'especially '86. I had the bottle of champagne in my hands, ready to open when the ball rolled through Buckner's legs.  Then, the 2004 Yankees helped my Red Sox wish come true.

Now, I have had the good fortune to witness those three titles in ten years, with the very realistic hope that I may see more. Somewhere, Grandpa and "Bill" are smiling down on me and the rest of "Red Sox Nation."
