Longtime country singer TG Sheppard has a brand-new album arriving on Friday (Sept. 20), but The Boot readers don't have to wait until then to hear some of it. Press play below to hear the exclusive premiere of Sheppard's new cut "I'm a Song."

Written by Bruce Birch and Gary Nicholson, "I'm a Song" is "one of the best-crafted songs that I've ever recorded," Sheppard tells The Boot. Its lyrics come from the perspective of the song, as though it's performing itself: "I can make you cry, make you laugh / Make your pray or make your dance / If I sound just right and my words are true."

"Everyone has certain songs that trigger special memories in their life," Sheppard says. "I was compelled to add ["I'm a Song"] to the album because I thought that it might just trigger some memories within the listener."

"I'm a Song" comes from Sheppard's new album, Midnight in Memphis, which he co-produced with Buddy Hyatt. It's his first solo country album in 22 years, adding to a career that includes 21 No. 1 songs (eight of which were consecutive, from 1980 through 1982).

In addition to maintaining a busy touring schedule, Sheppard also hosts The TG Sheppard Show on SiriusXM's Elvis Radio channel each Friday. Fans can visit TGSheppard.com to keep up with his goings-on, and to learn more about Midnight in Memphis.
