Two Fatalities in Tomkins County Head-On Collision
On New Year's Eve state police investigated a two vehicle head-on crash in the Town of Newfield occurring around 5:00 pm.
The initial investigation revealed that James Crosby, 19, of Vanetton was traveling north on State Route 34/96 when he crossed the center line, striking a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Samantha Aarnio, 31, of Spencer.
James Crosby was taken to Robert Packer Hospital for a leg injury, while his passenger, 20-year-old Derek Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene.
Samantha Aarnio was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center with multiple injuries. Her passenger, 67-year-old Kathy Latimore, was transported to Cortland Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The other passenger, 32-year-old Eugene Aarnio, was taken to Robert Packer Hospital for an arm injury.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. State Police are requesting anyone with information to contact the Ithaca barracks at (607) 347-4440.
