Standoff in Amity Ends Peacefully [UPDATE]
State police say the man involved in a standoff in the Southern Aroostook County town of Amity Tuesday has surrendered and has been taken to the to Aroostook County Jail.
[UPDATE] Lt. John Cote says say 65-year-old Gary Knapp has surrendered after a series of negotiations.
Police were called to a home on the Monument Road around 8:30 a.m. after a reported dispute between a homeowner and hunters in the area escalated. Residents tell us several state police cruisers were surrounding the home where a man had reportedly barricaded himself inside.
Three ambulances also responded to the scene of the standoff as well as members of the Maine Warden Service. Monument Road is blocked off at this hour.
More details are coming in this morning from Amity and we will pass them along as soon as we know more. There is no official confirmation from police as to what led to the standoff.
