It was 50 years ago on February 9th that Beatlemania hit the United States. That was the night that the Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan show. I was only 7 at the time, so mom thought it was a little late for me to see, and she didn't see what the big deal was, anyway. I sure heard about it the next day, though. My friend Kenny had a 15 year old sister, and he complained all day that she literally was screaming at the TV during their whole performance.

70 million people did watch the show which was aired live from the Manhattan studio where the David Letterman show is now taped. Of course, the Beatles were not the only act to appear that night. Check out these memories from some of the other acts that were there, as well as recollections from viewers and Sullivan employees.
