Fatal Fire in Guilford Intentionally Set

According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, the fatal fire reported in Guilford at 10:40 p.m. Sunday was intentionally set. Police say the victim, set fire to his residence on Joslyn Road in Guilford and then shot himself. The Guilford and Oxford Fire Departments responded to the blaze around 11 p.m. Sunday.

The victim of fire in has not yet been identified. A dental examination has to be completed on the victim to confirm identification.

Chenango County Bureau of Fire assisted with investigating the cause of the fire, which was set intentionally by the occupant of the double-wide trailer. An autopsy was performed at Lourdes Hospital which determined the occupant died of smoke inhalation.
