After two and a half days of deliberations the jury in the 3rd murder trial of Peter Wlasiuk reached a verdict early Tuesday afternoon in Chenango County Court.

The jury found Wlasiuk guilty of the murder of his wife Patricia in 2002. This will be the third time a jury has reached the same verdict, but the guilty verdict in the first two trials came after a much shorter period. The first two were thrown out of court on appeal.

At a press conference outside the Chenango County courthouse following the guilty verdict, Chenango County district attorney Joe McBride said the trials have been a burden on everyone involved for the last 10 years.

Mcbride said he is sure the verdict will hold up this time around. Prosecutors believe that Wlasiuk killed his wife and tried to cover it up by staging it to look like an accidental drowning in Guilford Lake.

Wlasiuk will face a maximum sentence of 25 years-to-life and will be sentenced at a later date.
